Café con Leslie: Swine flu, shrinking high school classes & a new bedroom

My stylish influenza face mask -
Face masks are SO 2009!
¡Hola, mis amores! Welcome back to another edition of Café con Leslie, my weekly blog post to catch you up on what's been going on in our lives and/or other random stuff we'd chat about if we were to go out for coffee.

Here's what we were up to last week...

*Last week started off with a bang making me 500 pesos (about $40 USD) richer thanks to the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl win against the Denver Broncos. I still don't understand how Hubby could even root for the Denver Broncos considering they're the reason OUR team, the New England Patriots, didn't make it to the Super Bowl this year.

*On Tuesday Hope finally went back to school, after her extended 2-month winter break, and was surprised to find herself in a much smaller class. When the 2013-2014 school year started back in August there were 38 students in Hope's class. Now at the start of the 2nd semester, there are now only 16 students in her class. Some of the students decided that high school just wasn't for them, and others failed so many classes they figured it would be easier to start all over again next school year.

*I don't know exactly how it happened, but I finally got Hubby to agree with me that it's time to get a new bed. We're gettting rid of our older-than-dirt king-size bed and getting a much smaller cama matrimonial (full-size bed). Having a king-size bed just doesn't make any sense to us anymore. It used to when the kiddies were babies and I was breastfeeding, but now it's just too big of a bed for just Hubby and me, who only take up about half of the mattress.

What Hubby doesn't know yet, but should totally expect after 19 years of marriage, is that if you buy Leslie a new, smaller bed, she's going to want new sheets and comforter for that bed. Not to mention new curtains to match the bedding. Once Leslie has the new bed and the new, pretty bedding...she's going to want to replace the old and hideous armoir and clothes rack for something that looks nicer in her new bedroom. And since she'll have more room in her bedroom because of the new smaller bed and less furniture in her room, she's probably also going to want a reading corner in her bedroom too, complete with a reading chair & ottoman that Hubby is going to make for her. Then once all that's done, Leslie will find another "project" to work on and it turn it into something bigger than she originally had in mind.

If and when my bedroom makeover is complete, I will post before and after pics for all to see.

*On Friday, Jack and Ashley came home from school with a note letting us parents know that the Influenza virus (aka Swine Flu) is a thing again, and that starting Monday (today) all students need to wear a face mask to school. So, here's to hoping we don't catch that dreadful bug.

*And last but not least, I'm almost finished with one of my big work projects. Happy, happy, joy, joy! (As soon as I can, I will fill you in on all the details.)

Now tell me, what have you been up to?

  1. Go Pats!!! ;) I'm planning to surprise my hubby with a bedroom makeover in the fall since, after living in our house for 5 years, we don't even have a picture on our bedroom wall. I'd love to see your before and after pics!

  2. They have them wear face asks to school! That must be a sight! Fingers crossed everyone stays healthy! Stopping by from SITS for some comment love

  3. I couldn't imagine moving to a smaller bed with my hubby. We have a queen which is a good size for us but if we had the space in our room we would have a king. We are both sleepers that like space to stretch out.

  4. Wow...that's crazy that they have to wear masks to school. Although I'd like that, because I'm super paranoid about the flu. Hope you all stay healthy! Stopping by from SITS Girls ~Krissa (

  5. What a bummer that so many students dropped out! :( And about the masks....yikes! Hopefully the swine flu will go away soon and it won't touch your household! I know a couple people who've had it, and it's no walk in the park. :/ #SITSBlogging

  6. The caption for your photo is totally what caught my attention, very funny! Sorry that it's happening again, but I expect some good drawn-on-face mask photos next. :) CRAZY about such a small school size now! I didn't know over 50% drop-out was... a thing.

  7. Wow! poor kids I know they must love walking around at school wearing a face mask! New fashion accessory.. not !! Yikes!! I'll be looking forward to seeing your bedroom makeover whenever you get it done! Have a great week! Stopping by from #Sitsblogging

  8. So sorry to hear swine flu is going around :( Glad they are doing whatever they can at school to keep it from spreading though. Hope you all stay well! #SITSBlogging
