Daily Doses of Me

The first time I attempted posting daily was in July of last year.  It was something I had wanted to try since I started blogging, but I was a little afraid that I would run out of things to blog about.

I did pretty good considering that there was a lot going on in our lives at the time.   Hubby and I were busy working on 150 chairs for the local high school, the kiddies were on vacation and my sister-in-law was visiting with her family.  I had plenty to write about, I just lacked time and energy.

While I did have a lot of fun doing it, come August, I was more than relieved not to have that kind of pressure anymore.  I tried to convince myself that I would keep it up, but I never did.

In October, when I received notice that my blog was going to be featured on SITS, I read through all of my posts trying to decide which posts to highlight.  I couldn't believe that I had so few blog posts to choose from.  I promised myself that I would get back to posting daily, but again, I never did.

Then at the end of December, when writing my Best Of 2010 post, I was kind of disappointed that I hadn't even written half of the great blog post ideas I had, nor did I write about all we did that year.

When I read about The Blog Dare on Bloggy Moms, I knew that was exactly what I wanted and  needed.  A challenge of sorts to get me writing daily.

And that is exactly what I did in January.  I posted 28 days out of 31.  Pretty darn good considering the most I'd ever written in a month was 24 posts.

I had planned on doing the same in February, but with me being sick and all of my tooth troubles, it wasn't possible.

I realize I already missed yesterday, but this month I am going to do my best to post everyday.  Not because I feel like I have to, but because I want to.  I just hope you'll tune in everyday!

  1. I hear ya, I found that going to Mexico for the week just threw me off completely. I had to catch up on all those blogs as soon as I got home so that put me behind a week when I was home. Half of them are still sitting as drafts but is it cheating if I write it now and date if February 1st? LOL. I am doing better now, even if it's just a quick paragraph about playing games with the family, I use it as a diary when I go back and scrap something. I do did the 2010 in review and was shocked to see how little I had written when we had done so much.

  2. Yay! Don't feel pressured by us, but I hope you have fun!

I used to post almost daily, but I decided small doses might be better for me.

What I really need to do is write things down as soon as I think them up... a great blog idea will come to me at random times, then I'll forget about it because I didn't write it down.

  3. I always intend to do a post at least every other day and to try to keep up with others blogs, but so often I fall short. If it's not one thing it's another, and frankly, I need sleep sometime! ::snort:: I hope after my stint helping out at the daycare is up next week I'll have more time to work on blogging routinely!

  9. Stopping by from the #Cocktail Party...I think that as long as you have a regular updating going on with things you enjoy to write about that not writing EVERY day is ok. I try to update at least 4-5 days out of each week and I think that really puts a lot on my blog and gives me time to do other things as well as have my outlet going!

  10. I tried to push myself at one point but then my family started to suffer so instead I go for once a week and its much more doable for me! I love blogging but I don't want to neglect my babies!

Good luck with your once a day! You can do it if you really want to!

  12. I wrote a post every day in November for NaBloPoMo, and it's really hard work! I'd say 28 days out of 31 is awesome! Plus, I find the more I blog the easier it gets. I hope you are feeling 100 percent soon!

  20. I believe that the best blogging comes when inspired and not because you feel pressure that should post. Blogging is a hobby and when we feel pressure, its just not fun.

Came over from the Cocktails Comment Hour chat. :)

  21. Hi SITSta :) I made a resolution this year to get more serious about posting & so far I've been sticking to it. Keep up your good work!

  22. LOL. Yes, I too have been experiencing a little difficulty with the Blog Dare. However, overall I think that I have done well. I haven't missed too many days so far. I'm learning to write posts as they come to me and then schedule them to post for a different day if I've already written something for the day it comes to me.

  23. It really is hard to keep up with blogging daily. There are so many other things that go on in our lives.

  24. The cartoon with the monkeys made me LOL. Just surfed in from cocktail hour and will be back when I have more time to read. :-)

  26. Blogging is part of my daily routine. I try to make time at some point in my day (or night) to write a post and read other blogs. I always look forward to reading your blog!

  27. You can do it. My biggest problem is the amount of time I spend editing. Writing is easy. Paring it down -- not so much.

  28. We've just come off a month of posting every day (Mon-Fri anyways) and at first I was very relieved. Now, I'm totally missing it. Do it because you want to, not for any other reason.

Good Luck with your goal. I'm not convinced posting every day is really that important unless you are posting something you want instead of just for the sake of it. Writing prompts are definitely awesome though. I should do them sometimes :)
