Resolutions Revisited...

I can't believe that it's already July 1st.

We are halfway through 2010.

Where did the time go?

It seems like only yesterday that we were ringing in the New Year and thinking of our New Year's Resolutions.

Resolutions???  If you're anything like me, you've probably forgotten all about them.  But then I remembered that I posted them here on my blog, in hopes that I would see them through.  I'm still not sure if that was one of my smartest moves!

So let's do just that, let's see how well I'm doing with my resolutions.

  1. Exercise:  Part of me wants to laugh out loud.  Exercise and I have never been the best of friends.  So it was no surprise to me that I didn't get started immediately on this one.  But the good news is that a few months later, I began walking 60 - 80 minutes a day.  It may not seem like much, but it's contributed to my losing a little over 20 pounds in the last 3 months.  So...not bad!
  2. Sew:  I do plenty of sewing everyday, only it's in Hubby's shop.  My pile of fabric keeps growing and growing.  Sadly, the only thing I've made this year was Jack's cat costume.   I need to get to work on this one.
  3. Write:  I never realized how much I enjoy writing until I started this blog.  There isn't a day that goes by that I don't come up with at least 2 or 3 things to write about.  But life has been terribly busy and by the time I have time to write, I'm too tired.  Then I later kick myself for not writing.  I'm tempted to follow in my friend Theresa's footsteps and challenge myself to write everyday for a month.  What do you think?
  4. Keep in touch:  Tsk, tsk, tsk!  I'm still not doing so great at answering email as soon as I get them, but I do try to do so before the week is over.  But I could definitely do better.
  5. Back up photos:  This is one I can check off of my list.  I have last year's pics nicely saved on 2 separate discs.  (You know, just in case I lose one!)  This year's pics aren't backed up yet, but I'm doing a great job of keeping them organized.
  6. Garden:  Sigh!  If you only knew how much I want a garden.  I admire the pics my friends post on their blogs and on Facebook and wish that I had one.  I've got seeds.  Pots.  And the desire to have a spectacular garden.  The only thing holding me back at the moment is the lack of dirt.  But I think the gardening gods are on my side, because the "dirt guy" drove through the neighborhood yesterday, taking orders and will be delivering a bag sometime next week.  Keep your fingers crossed!
  7. Read:  Thanks to Amazon's Kindle for PC app, I am still reading a book a month.  Sometimes even two.  My only complaint is that I have to be sitting in an upright position, which can get a little uncomfortable.  But I've solved that problem.  I just ordered my very own Kindle.  I just hope it gets to my sister-in-law's house before she leaves, so she can bring it with her when she comes to visit later this month.  (Please pray that it does!)
  8. Be a better person:  This is something I strive for on a daily basis.
Recent events have reinforced my belief in making daily resolutions.  Sayings like "Live each day as if it were your last", "Carpe Diem" and "Don't put off for tomorrow, what you can do today" come to mind.  I don't know about you, but I'm guilty of putting things off for later.  And waiting for the right time to do something special.  Life is too short to not live it to the fullest.  I want to start doing the things I've always wanted.  No more waiting for the right moment.  No more worrying about what others might think of me.  We don't know how long we're going to be in this world, and when my time comes, I don't want to look back at my life and regret not doing or saying something.

So before I push "Publish", I just want to say thank you to all of you who read and comment on this blog.  You have all made my life that much more special.

God bless and take care.

  1. Yes I think you should challenge yourself to write every day for a month. DO IT!!!

And I am doing a happy dance for you on the exercise and weight loss. Way to go!

  2. That's great that you lost 20, way to go. Walking will do it. A book a month for me would be pushing. I try a book a month or so. Congratulations on all your achievements.

  3. We share goal #8 on our resolutions lists. Reading your blog helps me to achieve it :)

  4. Here is my experience with trying to write every day. It is a pain. But it is rewarding. My problem while I am up north is trying to find enough Mexico-connected topics. If you have extra topics each day, send them along. That should prove to be interesting.

  5. UNKNOWN MAMI: Gracias for the encouragement! I just might do it! :)

GLORIA: Walking helps a lot! It helped me lose 50 pounds when I first moved to Mexico. And I'm hoping it will do the same again. :)

    LEAH: The feeling is mutual!

STEVE: I think you are doing a great job of continuing to write quality material, even if you are NOB. And you make it look so easy! :)

  6. Congrats on these accomplishments! (I wish I could sew!)

  7. it is amazing we are halfway through this year! yay for the walking! and I am envious about the pics saved. I am so behind but at least all our pictures are in emails but it's hard to find anything.

  8. Leslie - most of your resolutions are ongoing processes, not something you can just check off as "done." And a cat costume is nothing to sneeze at! Yes, I urge you to blog daily if you can, just because I like to know what's going on in your life. I like the new look, too. Maybe someday you could just take your favorite posts and make them into a book?

  9. 20 pounds?!?! congrats!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got my first teeny tiny garden :) In the meantime enjoy your pots!

  10. I am the same way with New Years resolutions so I just "extended my deadline" and I have a 40 Before 40 that I'm working on. It has little and big things on it so I always feel like I'm accomplishing something, lol.

  11. 1ST MATE: You are a dear! I agree, most of our resolutions are ongoing processes. I wake up each morning with a list of things I want to improve on. Sometimes I achieve them and sometimes I don't.

A book? That is something to consider! :)

GRINGATION: I saw the pics of your garden! Very cute! :)

KRYSTAL: I'm working on my Bucket List!

  12. I write everyday just to manage my insanity! Good job on the losing weight. I;m still hoping part 2 of 2010 will allow me to make good on that one:)

  13. I think what really got me writing more was participating in NaBloPoMo in November. They hold a themed one every month so it's great exercise.

Congrats on the weight loss. I really want to lose about 10 lbs but life, and constant colds have been killing my energy.

Happy 4th of July weekend! Visiting From SITS

  14. Happy Saturday SITS sista! Great post! I don't even REMEMBER my resolutions! Congrats on the wait loss! =)

  15. Stopping by from SITS. Your list of Resolutions is impressive, and you were brave to post it on your blog. It sounds, to me, like you consistently accomplish quite a lot AND you have 4 children! I'm impressed.

  16. Congrats on the Kindle purchase! I got mine last year in December and I loooooooovvvvveeee it. I'm sure you will too. I had mine sent to me here in Mexico.

  17. First, I had to come and give you love when I saw your name on SITS. And then, after I read this post, I wanted to share this with you (because it seems we have more than a first name in common). Of all the things that "changed my life" this year, this was the one that really and truly did:

    Be back soon!

  18. This is a good idea, I think I posted my resolutions also, Im a little scared to go look at them because I dont remember what any of them were. lol
I would love to see you write every day, Ill read it even if its way late. ;)
Oh and speaking of e-mails I sent you one on fb.
